The WWE added a new layer of excitement to John Cena’s final match scheduled for December 13 by announcing the 16-man Last Time Is Now tournament to decide Cena’s opponent. While most in the community are excited about the tournament, WWE veteran Bully Ray wasn’t particularly impressed by its announcement.
In a two-day-old episode of Busted Open Radio, Ray expressed disagreement with the idea of holding a tournament to decide Cena’s final adversary. The 54-year-old was also confident that the former WWE boss, Vince McMahon, would’ve also detested the idea like him. (via WrestlingInc)
I’m not a fan of the tournament idea. And… I’d be willing to bet a dollar that if Vince McMahon knew about this tournament, he would be destroying his own home.
Ray also explained his prediction about Vince’s distaste for the tournament during the episode.

Ray didn’t delve into much detail about his prediction of McMahon’s reception for the Last Time Is Now tournament. The former WWE Hardcore Champion presented a rather vague reason behind why he thought the former boss would’ve detested the idea of a tournament to determine Cena’s final opponent. He said:
Vince hated tournaments. Now I did not share Vince’s opinion on tournaments. But in this case, I’m not a fan of this tournament, unless there is somebody involved in this tournament that we don’t see coming.
Ray’s comments about McMahon “hating” tournaments sound a bit off reality, considering the 80-year-old has organized several yearly and one-time tournaments in the WWE. The Wrestling Classic, King of the Ring, and Brawl for All are examples of a few tournaments held in the WWE during McMahon’s tenure.
Ray clarified that the lack of wild-card entries of surprise wrestlers into the tournament was the reason behind his distaste. But his vague answer might leave many wondering why exactly Mr. McMahon would have disliked the idea of this tournament.
While nothing can be said about that, it is being reported that the WWE has already picked the winner of the Last Time Is Now Tournament.

The WWE is a scripted show where the outcome of most sequences is predetermined. However, given that the tournament was announced days ago, the WWE will likely never disclose the name of its winner until the end, when fans will find out naturally.
However, the October 6 report from Wrestling Observer Newsletter‘s Dave Meltzer disclosed that Gunther would be Cena’s final WWE rival. But while lots of fans have revealed their choices for Cena’s final opponent, there’s a special reason for believing that Meltzer’s report is authentic.
Meltzer’s colleague, Bryan Alvarez, relayed his report in a YouTube video the next day. Besides disclosing that Gunther would face Cena in his final match, Alvarez also highlighted that the WWE would declare a tournament to determine the Cenation star’s final WWE opponent, which ultimately turned out to be true. Gunther has been chosen as the final opponent for John Cena. Multiple sources over the last two days have confirmed the name…Two sources have confirmed that the latest plan is for a tournament to be announced, possibly on the air by Paul Levesque, with top wrestlers vying to be Cena’s last opponent. Multiple have confirmed, however, Gunther was the person chosen for the match.
Despite Meltzer’s report, it cannot be documented that Gunther will be Cena’s final WWE opponent until the conclusion of the Last Time Is Now tournament.
Nevertheless, do you think Bully Ray went a bit too far by predicting that McMahon would’ve hated the idea of the Last Time Is Now tournament? Let us know in the comments below.
