Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘ writer has addressed claims from fans that he hadn’t seen Marvel Studios‘ WandaVision before writing the film.
What did Doctor Strange 2’s writer say?
Speaking to fans during a recent Reddit AMA session, writer Michael Waldron was asked what his inspiration for Wanda was in the sequel. Waldron’s answer talked about the growth of both Strange and Wanda from their other stories, and he took a not-so-subtle jab at those who thinks he had not seen the Disney+ show.
“I liked continuing to explore Strange’s need for control, especially in the wake of his experience in Infinity War/Endgame,” Waldron wrote. “And this mirrored Wanda’s own struggle with control following WandaVision (which, contrary to what the internet tells you, I was reading/watching all the way through).”
Waldron’s comments reference a long-held thought by many that the writer hadn’t seen any of WandaVision ahead of writing the story to the 2022 movie. This was seemingly confirmed by star Elizabeth Olsen, who said in 2023 that the writer’s “had not seen” the show due to it not being finished, where she also felt she had to act different to make sure Wanda’s arc in Doctor Strange’s sequel wasn’t “repetitive.”
Despite the beliefs, Waldron has seemingly put the issue to bed with his comments while also opening up a window into his creative process on the movie.
