A new Avengers: Doomsday rumor reveals a key component to the look of Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom.
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday has now wrapped production. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers, the movie hits theaters in 2026. The sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, then arrives one year later in 2027. That film is also being directed by the Russo Brothers.
What is the new Avengers: Doomsday rumor?
Downey Jr. has been cast as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The character briefly appeared during the post-credit scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, though his face was not seen.
Some other Doctor Doom artwork from Avengers: Doomsday has also emerged online; although, similarly, none of those images show Downey Jr.’s face. This has been a cause of concern for some MCU fans who have been vocal about not wanting Doctor Doom to be an evil Tony Stark/Iron Man variant, which was a rumor going around for a time.
While there’s still much secrecy surrounding Downey Jr.’s new Avengers role, scooper MyTimeToShineHello is now reporting, per ComicBookMovie, that “Doctor Doom WILL have a scarred face in Doomsday, at least at the start of it.”
This is only a rumor at this time and should be treated as such, as official Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars details are being heavily guarded by Marvel.
Avengers: Doomsday hits United States theaters on December 18, 2026, from Marvel Studios, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU. Avengers: Secret Wars then follows on December 17, 2027. Prior to both of those movies, the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man 4, also known as Spider-Man: Brand New Day, first swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps, meanwhile, is now available to rent or purchase on digital streaming outlets such as Prime Video, Apple TV, and more.
