Mark Wahlberg recently recalled almost becoming Dick Grayson, also known as Robin, in the 1997 movie Batman & Robin. It originally featured George Clooney as the Dark Knight and had Chris O’Donnell playing the role of Grayson. Unfortunately, the Joel Schumacher movie did not impress the critics and fans much.

The Play Dirty star recently sat down for a chat, where he shared how he was close to getting cast as Dick Grayson in Batman & Robin.

Mark Wahlberg shared with ET Online, “I was in talk. I did not get the official offer, but I was meeting with Joel Schumacher about Batman and Robin for Robin. I was a fan of Joel’s and his other works, but I wasn’t really interested in that type of project.”

In March 2024, the BAFTA award winner also spoke to Josh Horowitz about being considered for the role of Robin in the 1995 movie Batman Forever on his Happy, Sad, Confused podcast. He said, “No, we met, we met quite a few times. We talked about it. I never got the official offer.” He further conveyed that he was “glad” that he didn’t get the offer.

Wahlberg is one of those actors who has stayed away from the comic book genre. Furthermore, while talking to ET Online, he was asked about whether he would ever join the Marvel Cinematic Universe if Robert Downey Jr. asked.

Mark Wahlberg said, “I don’t know if I have the confidence to walk out of my trailer in one of those costumes. I have seen many that I love, Iron Man being my favorite. I think that was really the epitome of quality superhero films. But I just never really had the opportunity, so I never had to make any decision on whether I would or not. But I hadn’t really pursued anything in that genre either.”
