It’s no secret that Superman’s David Corenswet is a big guy. However, director James Gunn recently revealed a trick they used in one Superman scene to amplify just how big Corenswet is.
What tricks did James Gunn use in Superman?
In the director’s commentary for the film’s home release, Gunn revealed that in the scene where Clark Kent is walking into the Daily Planet’s office building, they used an old movie trick to make him seem bigger. Gunn noted that the scene features mainly extras who were about 5’6″ in height or under to help accentuate Corenswet’s 6’4″ frame.
“One of the reasons we can see how big he is, is because I got all extras who were, I think, 5’6″ or under,” Gunn said in the commentary.

As fans dive more into Superman, Gunn and co. at DC Studios are already working on the next film. As of now, little is known about Man of Tomorrow, outside of the fact that it will release on July 9, 2027, and that Corenswet, Hoult, and Rachel Brosnahan are all set to return for the movie.
The Man of Tomorrow is one of Superman’s many nicknames. However, there have also been a handful of DC comic runs that have incorporated the ‘Man of Tomorrow’ name into their official title. There was also a 2020 animated movie titled Superman: Man of Tomorrow, but whether or not the DCU movie will be pulling from any of this source material remains unclear at this time.
Superman is now available to rent or purchase on digital outlets such as Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and more.
