In the build-up to the much-awaited Toy Story 5, Disney recently showcased the opening scene of the movie to a select group of audience, hinting at a surprising storyline for Buzz Lightyear. The brief sequence has not only teased an ambitious new adventure for the toy astronaut but has also piqued the public’s curiosity about the plot of the upcoming animated feature.
Toy Story 5’s opening scene description leaves Buzz Lightyear stranded on an island
On August 30, Saturday, Disney premiered the opening scene of Toy Story 5 at Destination D23’s Walt Disney Studios showcase in Orlando. The first few minutes of the film highlight Buzz Lightyear on a mysterious island as he attempts to make an escape from the place (via The Direct).
The sequence starts with Buzz slowly opening his eyes, only to find a palm tree above his head. As he tries to make sense of the situation, Lightyear stumbles upon the box for another Buzz model with the line “Hi-Tech Edition” written on it. Realizing that he has experienced a shipwreck, the main Buzz then discovers a shipping crate filled with unopened but activated figurines of himself.
The Toy Story 5 opening scene then cuts to the army of Buzzes heading out to the island shore, only to realize what has happened to them in unison. In accordance, the gang regroups in the night around a fire, when one of the Buzz Lightyears utters the word “Star,” after looking at the sky.
The remaining Buzzes say “Command” in reply before everyone erupts into a collective chanting of the phrase, “Rendezvous with Star Command.” Having found a revived sense of purpose, the toys construct a massive raft and ultimately set out on a journey on the ocean.
While the description for Toy Story 5’s opening scene suggests fans could see Tim Allen’s Buzz embark on an epic sea voyage, the sequence could simply turn out to be a dream or a commercial for the Lightyear toy, used to set the theme of the film. More answers on the topic should follow when Toy Story 5 comes out in theaters on its scheduled release date of June 19, 2026.
