The Penguin Season 2 has been given a disappointing update, though there’s still hope the HBO Batman spin-off show could return.

HBO’s The Penguin premiered in September 2024. A spin-off of Matt Reeves’ The Batman, the show sees Colin Farrell reprise his role as Oswald “Oz” Cobb, while Cristin Milioti stars as Foia Gigante.

Since the finale of The Penguin, there’s been much talk and speculation over whether or not a second season will happen. Reeves and showrunner Lauren LeFranc have both expressed interest in making The Penguin Season 2, though nothing has been confirmed at this time.

What is the latest update on The Penguin Season 2?

Speaking with Deadline, Warner Bros. Television Group CEO Channing Dungey was asked for an update on a potential The Penguin Season 2.

“The Penguin is one of those things where — and it’s interesting because when you talk with everyone involved, everyone is interested in possibly revisiting those characters and doing more — it was very much designed as a limited series,” he said. “But I would never say never. I think if we can get the creative stars to line up in the right way, and the talent is available — because we certainly wouldn’t want to do this without Colin [Farrell] and Cristin [Milioti] and that team — I would say it’s definitely a possibility, but there’s nothing in the works at the moment.”

The first season of The Penguin also stars Rhenzy Feliz as Victor “Vic” Aguilar, Deirdre O’Connell as Francis Cobb, Michael Zegan as Alberto Falcone, Michael Kelly as Johnny Viti, Mark Strong as Carmine Falcone, Scott Cohen as Luca Falcone, Theo Rossi as Dr. Julian Rush, and Clancy Brown as Salvatore “Sal” Maroni.

While DC fans will have to wait to see whether or not The Penguin 2 will happen, a sequel to The Batman currently has an October 1, 2027, release date.
