Tony Kabaka suspends enforcement operations
Comrade Tony Kabaka Adun, Chief Enforcement Officer of the Edo Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), has suspended all operations due to increasing resistance and attacks from transport unions in the state. Kabaka was hired to curb illegal revenue collection, but his efforts have been met with hostility from unions, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Road Transport Employee Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), and Professional Drivers on Wheel.
Kabaka cited intelligence reports indicating a coordinated plan by the unions to target his operatives, which led to his decision to halt operations until the state governor returns and provides guidance. This move follows an initial attack on his team, which drew widespread attention.
Kabaka emphasized his commitment to ensuring the safety of his employees and the public, stating that he will not engage in any actions that could lead to unrest or jeopardize lives and property. He also hopes that the EIRS and the state government will implement policies to remove union members from parks and streamline revenue collection processes.
The transport unions are resisting Kabaka’s efforts to stop illegal revenue collection, which they claim has been a source of income for their members. As the situation unfolds, Kabaka awaits a decisive response from the state governor to resolve the standoff and protect the interests of workers and citizens in Edo State.
