Sadie Sink being cast in Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man 4 has MCU fans excited.
It was announced earlier today — Wednesday, March 12, 2025 — that Sink, who is best known for playing Max Mayfield, had been cast in Marvel’s Spider-Man 4, which will be released in 2026.
It’s not immediately clear who Sink will be playing in the movie. The most prominent theory suggests that she’ll portray the iconic X-Men character Jean Grey, as it’s been rumored that Marvel was eying Sink for that role for months, now.
Deadline’s article also mentions she could play “another beloved redheaded Spider-Man character,” leading people to wonder whether she’ll be a Mary Jane Watson variant from a different universe or potentially Gwen Stacy.
While Gwen is typically blonde in Marvel Comics, she’s been played in live-action format before by Bryce Dallas Howard in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 and Emma Stone in Marc Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man movies.

Many people on X seem to be convinced that Sink is indeed playing Jean Grey in the film. This could potentially back up a recent rumor that Spider-Man 4 will be a direct sequel to Avengers: Doomsday, as Doomsday and Secret Wars are expected to bring the X-Men to the forefront of the MCU.

Official plot details for the fourth Spider-Man movie remain under wraps at this time. Tom Holland is reprising his role as Peter Parker in the film, which is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously made Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Spider-Man 4 will be released in United States theaters on July 31, 2026, from Marvel Studios, putting its release approximately two months after Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters. Avengers: Secret Wars then follows on May 7, 2027.
