With Taskmaster noticeably missing from the Thunderbolts* Super Bowl trailer, fans are eager to know the reason behind her limited screen time. The upcoming 36th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is set to release on May 2, 2025, marking the conclusion of MCU’s Phase Five.

Here’s everything we know about why Taskmaster, played by Olga Kurylenko, rarely appears in the Thunderbolts* Super Bowl trailer.

Why Taskmaster had a small role in the Thunderbolts* trailer

Taskmaster’s limited presence in the Thunderbolts* trailer has fueled speculation that she might not survive the film.

Marvel Entertainment recently dropped the official trailer for the highly anticipated MCU movie, Thunderbolts* (2025). However, fans quickly noticed that Antonia Dreykov, aka Taskmaster, played by Olga Kurylenko, was barely seen in it. Many believe this could indicate that she won’t make it to the end of the movie.

One of the most popular fan theories suggests that The Sentry/The Void, played by Lewis Pullman, will kill Taskmaster within the first half of the film. The trailer highlights just how powerful Robert “Bob” Reynolds’ dark alter ego, The Void, will be. This could explain Taskmaster’s limited screen time. The only glimpse of her in the trailer appears when the Thunderbolts* team meets at Stark Tower. The tower is now under the control of Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina.

However, it’s important to note that these are merely fan speculations. The actual plot details of Thunderbolts* remain under wraps. Neither Marvel Studios nor Olga Kurylenko has commented on Taskmaster’s fate.

Directed by Jake Schreier, the film boasts an ensemble cast featuring several returning MCU characters. Florence Pugh reprises her role as Yelena Belova, alongside Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster.

Only time will tell whether Taskmaster meets an early demise or plays a more significant role in the Thunderbolts* storyline.
