The Green Lantern Corps has suffered heavy losses in recent months. Taken over by the United Planets, they nearly collapsed thanks to enemies from within and without. Now the Corps is being rebuilt, but the preview for Green Lantern: Fractured Spectrum #1 reveals their problems are far from over.

As Fractured Spectrum opens, Green Lantern Hal Jordan is pondering his good fortune. With the Corps being rebuilt and his romance with Carol Danvers affirmed, things are looking up. However, unbeknownst to Jordan, his new enemy Sorrow is seeking a means of reading the mystic Book of Oa.

Green Lantern: Fractured Spectrum restores a fractured Corps

Written by Jeremy Adams with art by V. Ken Marion, the Fractured Spectrum special will set a new status quo for the Corps. In addition to the current monthly book, DC is publishing a new series centered around the GLC. However, even with the Corps reestablished on Oa, they will be facing new challenges.

Chief among these is a wave of beings dubbed “Fractal Lanterns.” Their name comes from the fact that the Emotional Spectrum has been placed under great stress in recent months. This accordingly allows some to manifest the power of the Emotional Spectrum in unexpected ways.

Presumably, this includes Sorrow, who taps the power of Depression like how a Green Lantern draws on Will. Earlier Corps drew on Rage, Avarice, Fear, Hope, Compassion, and Love. There are also White and Black Lanterns who draw on Life and Death, respectively. It is unclear what Sorrow wants with the Book of Oa, but it is sure to bode ill for the Corps and Hal Jordan.

Green Lantern: Fractured Spectrum #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on January 8, 2025.
