The Akwa Ibom State Transport Stakeholders Council convened its first meeting at Feyrep Hall, Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo, on October 10, 2024 chaired by the Commissioner for Transport, Rt. Hon. Orman Esin.
The meeting began with a minute’s silence in honor of the late First Lady, Pastor Mrs. Patience Umo Eno, just before the council dived into addressing issues concerning the transport sector in the state.

The stakeholders’ meeting is coming on the heels of the recently held maiden edition of Akwa Ibom State Transport Summit, another novel initiative by the Orman Esin led Ministry of Transport. At the meeting, Hon. Esin made key appointments and approved computerized registration of tricycles and mini-buses.
As the chairman-in-council, Hon. Esin emphasized the transport sector’s significance beyond revenue generation, urging stakeholders to envision it as a major industry shaping the perception of the state’s brand.
The council adopted the Akwa Ibom State Transport Regulations 2022, aligning with Governor Pastor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda. This move aims to enhance efficiency, transparency, and security through reduced bureaucracy and real-time data. This signals that Akwa Ibom’s transport sector is poised for modernization and innovative solutions.
