Paramount and Hasbro have reportedly begun developing a new Power Rangers movie, which will serve as a complete reboot of the franchise. The project, unrelated to the previously planned Netflix universe, marks a fresh start for the series. With early negotiations showing progress, the film aims for a late 2026 theatrical release, signaling a significant investment in revitalizing the iconic brand.

A new Power Rangers movie is reportedly in development at Paramount Pictures and Skydance. It will reportedly be a complete reboot, unrelated to the previously planned universe by Hasbro and Netflix. The project remains in its early stages, with no revealed details about the story or cast.
According to sources like Daniel Richtman and @Jinsakuu, Paramount and Hasbro have negotiated for months and recently made significant progress. They also discussed a potential buyout of the franchise’s media rights but have not finalized any decision.
Paramount and Hasbro currently plan to co-develop the film and aim for a theatrical release in late 2026. They intend to avoid repeating the challenges of the 2017 Power Rangers reboot, which struggled at the box office.
Hasbro has owned the franchise since 2018 and has made strategic changes to its management. After the 30th-anniversary celebrations, including the Once & Always special and the Cosmic Fury series, Hasbro paused most major Power Rangers projects. This includes the Lightning Collection toy line, which will move to Playmates Toys in 2025.
Playmates Toys is enthusiastic about the collaboration. “Playmates and Hasbro speak the same toy language and share a passion for Power Rangers, a multi-generational phenomenon that has stood the test of time,” said Karl Aaronian, Playmates’ Senior Vice President of Marketing (via Comicbook.com).
While specifics about the reboot’s storyline remain unknown, fans are speculating whether it will revisit the iconic Mighty Morphin Power Rangers era or incorporate elements from other iterations of the franchise.
