He mentioned that he can sing in English but prefers to express himself in Yoruba. Asake emphasized that those who do not appreciate his music in Yoruba should stop listening entirely.
He said: “I am more comfortable singing in Yoruba, it’s not that I can’t sing in English. If you fvck with me, fvck with me with my Yoruba. If not, then don’t”.
All three of Asake’s CDs, “Mr Money With The Vibes,” “Work of Art,” and “Lungu Boy,” have primarily Yoruba lyrics. Despite the fact that it is primarily sung in Yoruba, his hit song “Amapiano” received a Grammy Award nomination.
