Being a supervillain in the world of Marvel is a constant power struggle. To have any hope of besting heroes like The Avengers, one must continually improve and evolve. This is why four villains, best known for their role in the original Secret Wars, sought out a major power upgrade.
The upgrade was revealed in Captain Marvel: Dark Past by Paul Jenkins and Lucas Werneck. The new mini-series centers around Carol Danvers, who is once again having problems with amnesia. This was a major problem for Carol after a fight with Rogue put her into a coma. This time, however, she isn’t sure what she recalled happened. She also thinks her ability to see the future might be coming back.

Carol discusses the matter with Tony Stark. The two heroes have a special bond, both being Avengers leaders and Tony acting as Carol’s Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor. However, a flashback reveals that their first effort to meet was interrupted by the rampage of four supervillains who were actively seeking out Captain Marvel.
What Avengers villains just got a power upgrade?
The infamous foursome are the Wrecking Crew. While originally created as enemies of The Defenders, the Wrecking Crew have gone on to fight every superhero group at Marvel Comics at some point. Led by The Wrecker, the villainous team were all empowered by Wrecker’s enchanted crowbar, which let him share his enhanced strength and durability with his gang.

The Avengers quickly realize that the Wrecking Crew did something to enhance their gear. While always formidable, they now had power enough to dent and short-out Iron Man‘s armor. Thankfully, they still aren’t powerful enough to threaten Captain Marvel.

Once the fight is over, the Avengers discover that the Wrecking Crew’s gear was augmented by advanced Kree technology. This immediately makes them of interest to Captain Marvel, given her connection to the alien race. However, this is but one mystery of many pushing Carol Danvers down a dark path.
Captain Marvel: Dark Past #1 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
